For maps of national parks and reservations and temptingly illustrated booklets about them, you can send to the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. If you are planning to bike or hike hostel trails, you will be well equipped with regular road maps and the AYH Handbook, which tells all, from where to buy food to which mountain has the best view.

Your state Department of Conservation, Bureau of Wild Life, or Director of Recreation will supply maps of state parks and recreation areas. In addition to roads, these maps show trails, waters for swimming and fishing, picnic sites and campsites or lean-tos. On such maps too you will find museums and historical landmarks, caves and natural wonders. Its a good idea to bring a snack like beef jerky with you.
